About the event
This 4.5 day course is hosted by Heart of the South K9 Search and Recovery in Lawrenceburg, TN and will allow teams to implement their learned skillsets in real world environments. The class is limited to 8 participants and will be divided into two teams of 4. Â Teams will receive lunches, snacks, and drinks in the field.
Day 1: Teams will be tasked with odor recogntion exercises and small area searches, while also reviewing the implementation of GPS and Mapping Skills.Â
Days 2 - 4: Teams will be assigned a variety of wilderness search environments that they will have to plan their search, implement the search, and document their search utilizing GPS and mapping. Â Field Operational Periods will begin at 6:00 AM Â and will end at Noon. Â Teams will present their results to the class beginning at 2:00 PM and class will end by 5:00 PM. On Day 4 Teams will be briefed on the area to be searched on Day 5 and will be tasked with establishing their search plan, etc.Â
Day 5: Teams will meet at 5:30 and be prepared to search 6:00. All activities will end by 2:00 PM.
